Hands-on rhythm based events during which one or more facilitators lead people in playing drums and hand percussion instruments. No musical experience is necessary. It is an open space for a diverse group of people to create synergy through a rhythm. It allows people from all walks of life, all colors, races, nationalities, backgrounds to share their rhythmical spirit and create the power of unity through music. Participants are encouraged to express their individual rhythmical spirit, and at the same time adhere to some basic principles found in drum circles. As a rhythm-based event, drumming is a natural way to provide participants with an opportunity to creatively channel and release any pent-up emotions and frustrations that they may be stuck on. Drum circles are a fun, playful and energizing activity that adults and children of all ages can enjoy, and which gives immediate gratification and feedback while encouraging self-expression. Drum Circles also provide an opportunity for participants to feel connected with others and gain a sense of interpersonal support, and to connect with your own spirit at a deeper level. Group drumming alleviates self-centeredness, isolation and alienation. There are great benefits to feeling connected to others, especially those in similar situations. Drumming in general accelerates physical healing, boosts the immune system and produces feelings of well-being, a release of emotional trauma, and reintegration of self. Playing within the context of a drum circle is truly an example of the concept of teamwork at its highest level. As the rhythms come together and grow, we quickly realize the need for trust and dependence amongst our fellow drummers. So many of the lessons we learn in the drum circle can be directly applied in our homes, our schools, our workplaces, and our lives. Aho _/\_ Blessings, Love & Light

Join me for an adventure in traditional African and Afro-Cuban ensemble rhythms for Djembe, Conga, Ashiko, Djundjun and more. Step by step we will break down the phrasing and concepts of clavé, bell and drum patterns as we perfect our timing and techniques for playing traditional style hand drums. Together we will interlock multipart rhythms, creating a musical dialogue incorporating breaks, break phrases and improvisations. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate or experienced drummer, join my African & Afro-Cuban Rhythm Workshop and discover your voice on the drum! Mondays, 504 Beverly Circle South, Magnolia, NJ (7-10pm)
